Alba, Texas is a small rural town located in the heart of Wood County, just south of Quitman. With a population of just over 500 people, Alba has been able to maintain its rural atmosphere and charm for over a century. The town was founded in 1881, when the Houston, East and West Texas Railway bisected the area. It was named after its first postmaster, John Alba White.

Alba is home to several businesses, including a bank and a post office. The town also has a community center, library and several churches. A volunteer fire department provides fire protection. The residents of Alba are served by the Alba-Golden School District, which educates students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.

The majority of Alba’s residents are employed in the forestry industry, but the town also has a thriving agricultural sector. The area’s lush pine forests provide an abundant supply of timber, which is harvested annually as part of the forestry industry. On the agricultural side, farmers cultivate a variety of crops such as cotton, wheat, and corn.

Alba has its fair share of recreation options, too. Located on the south edge of town is a nine-acre park containing a playground, picnic tables and a pavilion. The town is home to Alba Country Club and Golf Course, which offers an 18-hole golf course and a driving range for the avid golfer. Alba is also just a short drive away from Lake Fork, one of the most popular recreational lakes in east Texas.

Despite its small size, Alba has much to offer. Its rich history and agricultural heritage lend the area an old-fashioned charm that is hard to find in larger cities. Its convenient location, coupled with its small-town atmosphere, make Alba a great place to call home.
