Alba, Texas, is a small town located in Wood County, in the Northeast part of Texas. The town is located just east of Quitman, and is part of the Tyler Metropolitan area. Alba has a unique and interesting history, one that is interwoven with the history of the surrounding areas.

The first person to establish a homestead in Alba was Jacob Johnson, a former Confederate soldier and area entrepreneur, who settled in 1846. Johnson's homestead became a place for travelers and the general public to purchase supplies and other goods. The town was officially founded in 1861 and soon after, the Alba Academy was formed. The Academy attracted students from across the state to study religion and academics.

The Alba area has been a center for cotton production since the late 1800s. In the early 1900s, many people of different ethnicities began to move to Alba, including those of African, Scandinavian and Mexican origin. This created a population with diverse backgrounds and cultures which can still be seen in the town today.

In 1937, the Wood County Telephone Company was established in Alba. This enabled the town to have access to telephone services and began the transition to a more modern way of living.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Alba enjoyed boom times, with increasing commercial and industrial growth. Some of the businesses that still operate in the area include Cohen's Furniture, McLendon's Department Store and a furniture factory.

Today, Alba is home to a number of churches and clubs, such as the Lions Club and Rotary Club. It is also home to several schools, including Alba-Golden High School and a junior college.
