The community has its own cemetery, church, post office, fill station, and an old country store dating back to the late 1800s. Two historical cemeteries are located within Starrville's boundaries, the Union Cemetery and Stephens Cemetery, both dating back to the late 1800s.

Starrville is best known for its role in Texas’ history; it has been the center of several battles and disputes between the native Indian tribes, the settlers, and the Republic of Texas. The Battle of Rayner's Creek and Aikin's Creek were fought in the area in the early 1800s, where many men lost their lives.
