New Boston, Texas is a small town in northeastern Texas with a population of around 4,091. It is located in Bowie County, which has a population of just over 900,000. The town was established in 1872 and originally called Irish Town. It was later changed to New Boston in 1881, in honor of its older counterpart in the state of Massachusetts. It was a cotton-processing industry town and the leading cotton producer in the Tyler-Longview area from 1910 to the 1950s.
