New Boston Texas is a beautiful town nestled in the Red River valley, in the northeast corner of Texas. It’s a small town with a population of under 4,000, but it has much to offer those who visit. The town features a few charming boutiques, big-box stores, restaurants and a few homey small-town touches including a pharmacy and old-fashioned soda fountain.
The town was established in 1837, but the man for whom it was named, Boston Colbert, did not arrive until 1852. He brought with him cattle, horses, and other livestock â much of which was used to stock the area’s ranches. Many of the families in New Boston are still descendants of the original settlers.
New Boston is also home to the Polk County Courthouse, the first county courthouse in the state of Texas. Despite its historical landmark status, the building itself has had its share of problems, including major damage resulting from an earthquake in 1915 and needing major restoration efforts in the 1950s and early 2000s.
While in town, visitors can take advantage of the scenic views and visit the Confluence State Park, with its outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing, sailing and kayaking. Other attractions nearby include the Clay County Pioneer Museum and the Lew Sterrett Community Center.
New Boston is located on the convergence of U.S. Route 82 and Texas State Highway 8. In Dallas, Texas, it’s about a two-hour drive. The town’s excellent economic environment, great amenities and wonderful people make this small town a destination worth visiting.
