Lindale is a town located in Smith County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Smith County and is a part of the Tyler, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area and is situated approximately 75 miles east of Dallas. In 2020, Lindale had an estimated population of 7,479, making it the 18th most populous town in Smith County.
The small town of Lindale started as a trading post and country store in the late 1870s, and it was officially incorporated as a municipality in 1872. It began as a community consisting mostly of farmland and a few small businesses that supported the farmers in the area.
Today, while still being an agricultural community and being home to many successful farms and cattle ranches, Lindale is a vibrant small town that offers much more. As of April 2021, the city has a number of small businessesâfrom restaurants and specialty shops to boutiques and gift shopsâall within the city limits. The town also hosts a variety of local events throughout the year. On the first Tuesday of every month, Lindale hosts a Farmer's Market, where local farmers bring their fresh produce for sale. Lindale is served by the Lindale Independent School District, which consists of six primary schools and a high school. The district has produced several notable alumni, including former alumnus, Kody Littlejohn, the first-ever Black Head Football Coach in the Deep South.
