Gresham is a tiny, unincorporated community in east Texas located on the borders of Rusk and Gregg Counties. It is a scenic, rural area known for its practice of traditional values and family-oriented way of life.
The town of Gresham was originally founded in 1884 by Colonel William Chester Gresham, a Confederate veteran who sought to bring railroad transportation to the area. He established the small town near strategic junctions of the Louisiana and Texas Railroad.
Today, Gresham is home to around 200-240 people who live in the rural area which includes nearby farms and a few family businesses. Although there is not much in the way of public services, the people of the area have maintained a strong “family” feel and are proud of their community.
As in many small towns, the country sharecropper lifestyle is prevalent. Residents grow their own food, often tending to large gardens and pastures for livestock. Fishing and hunting also continue to provide sustenance for the hard-working community.
