Grand Saline is a small city located in East Texas. It is nestled along the North East side of Van Zandt county, approximately 70 miles east of Dallas. With a population of 3,625 residents in 2019, Grand Saline is a charming and diverse city with a small-town feel.
Grand Saline was founded in the late 1800s and is named after an area of limestone hills or “Grand Saltine” that are native to the area. The nearby Salt Flat and Mineral Valley State Parks create the perfect nature escape for local residents, as well as visitors from out of state.
Some of the historical sites in Grand Saline include the Old Salt Mine, which was one of the largest salt mines in the world and can be explored from the town's main street. The First United Methodist Church, which was built in 1902, is also a historical landmark. For outdoor recreational activities, you can go camping and fishing at the nearby Salt Creek Lakes, or hiking and horseback riding on a variety of trails in the surrounding area.
