Rusk is a small town located in the state of Texas in the county of Cherokee, USA. The population of Rusk is less than 5,000 people and it has a small main street too. Despite its small size, Rusk is known for its historical significance.

Located in East Texas, Rusk was first founded in 1846 and has a rich past that still lives today. Even though Rusk has modest numbers, it is considered one of the oldest towns in Texas. Before the mid-1800s, the Cherokee Indians tribes lived in the area before the first settlers from Arkansas, Tennessee, and Ireland arrived. In the late 1800s, Railway transportation was built and it then became an important rail terminus for delivery of lumber. This helped to drive the economy and made it an important industrial and agricultural center in the region.

Rusk is home to Rusk High School, which was established in the 1930s and has since become the largest high school in the county that enrolls over 1000 students. There is also a community college and two educational child care facilities in the area.

Every year, there are different events that draw in people from around the area and beyond such as the East Texas State Fair, the East Texas Old Iron Show, and the Cherokee County Fair. Rusk was originally started with the intent of timber, but now it is mainly an agricultural center. The area also has many businesses as well as a downtown shopping district. There is also a historical museum which has its own library and documents many of Rusk’s pasts stories.
