Jacksonville, Texas is a small city in the Cherokee County located approximately 120 miles east of Dallas and has a population of 14,549 according to the 2020 census. It is primarily a farming community and has a diverse economic base with some of the most productive cotton and hayfields in the United States.
The town grew up on both sides of the railroads built in the 1850's. The town was incorporated in 1883 and soon became known as a center of agriculture and a commercial hub. Jacksonville successfully rode out the economic depression of the 1930's and quickly renovated itself afterwards.
