Winona is a town located in Smith County, Texas. It is situated midway between Tyler and Longview. It is near the Neches River and Lake Palestine. The population was 1,251 at the 2010 census.

The town was founded in 1879 and originally called Adamsville. Shortly after, it was changed to Baird Station, named after David Baird, a settler who owned cotton gins and a saw mill in the area. Later, he renamed the town Winona in honor of his youngest daughter, who died at the young age of 16.

Today, Winona is a small, charming rural community with a strong sense of community. The town has a Baptist church, several convenience stores, a post office, and a public library.

The biggest event of the year in Winona is the annual Winona Hoot-n-Hollar Festival. This event was established in 1988 and is held every October.
