Big Sandy is a town within Upshur County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The population of the town was 1,165 as of the 2010 census.

The town is part of the Longview, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Big Sandy is unique among other small towns in Texas. It is sometimes referred to as the “Crossroads of East Texas”, since the city itself has direct access to two major highways, US 271 and US 80.

The town was established in the late 1870s, along with neighboring towns Gilmer, Diana, Ore City and Harleton. These towns were all part of the original Sabine District of Texas, which was created in 1851. Once the railroad made its way to the area in 1873, Big Sandy began to grow and eventually became the focal point of the local farming and timber industries.

Big Sandy is a great place to visit for all sorts of activities, ranging from shopping and fine dining to outdoor adventures. Its charming streets are lined with local eateries, vintage shops and antique stores. The Main Street of Big Sandy plays host to some of the local fairs and festivals, such as the annual Catfish Festival and Upshur County Fair. Local parks include Rotary Park and Sabine River Nature Park, which offer trails for hiking and biking.
